Kanze School Noh Theatre - 28 Vintage Japanese Chant Books, Taiseiban, 1971-1978

A collection of 28 original Japanese editions of classical Noh theatre plays from the Kanze school, published between 1971 and 1978 during the Showa period.

The books belong to the Kanze-ryu Taiseiban edition, developed under the direction of Kanze Sakon (1895-1939), the 24th head of the Kanze school, one of the principal traditions of Japanese Noh theatre. The volumes were published by Hinoki Shoten, a specialist Japanese publisher of Noh texts.

The collection represents a substantial selection of the classical Noh repertoire, including Hagoromo, Aoi no Ue, Tsuchigumo, Kurama Tengu, Tamakazura, Momijigari, and other historical, literary, and mythological plays.

All 28 books are individual editions of different plays, printed on paper and bound in traditional Japanese thread bindings. The uniform dark blue covers feature repeating bird motifs.
