Complete five-book set of "Haikai Kokonsho", complete internally, published in Kyoto in 1730. The author, Kagami Shiko (1665-1731), was a haikai poet, a direct disciple of Matsuo Basho, and an important theorist of his school.

This is a lifetime edition, published approximately one year before Shiko's death.

"Haikai Kokonsho" belongs to the history of haikai and the early tradition from which modern haiku developed. It is not simply a collection of poetry, but a theoretical work dealing with the rules, principles, and practice of Basho-school haikai. Shiko systematizes both the tradition of his teacher and his own views on poetics.

The complete set consists of five books in the correct sequence: three Sun sections, followed by Moon and Star. This structure corresponds to complete institutional copies preserved in major Japanese collections, including Waseda University Library and the University of Tokyo.

The first three books contain Saisen Jokyo Shiki, the fourth Shui Jikkajo, and the fifth Shinsei Tokashiki.

An unusual feature of the work is Shiko's use of a literary device in which part of the commentary is presented as if written from the perspective of his own disciple, discussing the rules of Basho and Shiko himself. The work belongs to the late period of Shiko's career and represents one of his mature statements on haikai theory.

The final volume preserves the publication record dated 1730:

It is followed by a printed catalogue of haikai books associated with Shishian, one of Kagami Shiko's names.
