Original Japanese color woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige III (1842–1894), dated 1869, early Meiji period.

The print belongs to the series Tokyo Meisho Zue (東京名勝圖會) – Famous Views of Tokyo. The title cartouche reads Mukojima no Hanazakari (向嶋の花盛) – Cherry Blossoms in Full Bloom at Mukojima. The signature reads 廣重筆.

The scene depicts Mukojima on the eastern bank of the Sumida River, historically celebrated for its cherry blossoms and spring hanami. Created at the beginning of the Meiji era, the series presents established scenic places of Edo as views of the newly named capital, Tokyo.

Condition

Antique condition with visible age-related wear. The sheet has been trimmed, reducing the original margins and removing publisher markings that were originally present along the left side. There are numerous small insect holes and areas of paper loss, including within the printed image and cartouches, with more noticeable losses along the right edge.

Despite these condition issues, the main composition remains complete and clearly readable. The colors are notably well preserved, including the pink cherry blossoms, green landscape, yellow road, and blue-violet gradation in the sky.
