“Cricket and Striped Melons”
Original Japanese painting on silk mounted on a traditional shikishi board, dating to the early–mid Showa period.
Two striped melons are painted against a silver-gray silk ground, with a cricket perched on the upper fruit. The insect is rendered in fine detail, contrasting with the broader areas of color used for the melons. The woven texture of the silk remains clearly visible. Artist’s signature in the upper right.
