Original Japanese sumi-e painting on shikishi, dating to the Showa period, second half of the 20th century.
The auspicious subject combines a boat with small figures and traditional imagery associated with good fortune and prosperity. The vertical calligraphic inscription reads Senkyaku Banrai, a traditional expression wishing for a continuous flow of guests and customers, particularly associated with prosperous business and trade.
Executed in sumi ink with calligraphic line and varying tones of ink.
Handwritten artist signature at lower left.
The shikishi is presented in a deep vintage frame with a burgundy surround.
Condition
Good vintage condition with age and storage traces. Several small spots and areas of discoloration are visible on the shikishi. The frame has normal signs of age and use. Please examine the photographs carefully. The photographs form part of the condition description.
