Japanese painting on shikishi from the second half of the Shōwa period.
Red bamboo is a traditional Japanese subject. Here it is treated in a decorative manner using red and black ink with restrained washes. The composition is built around the contrast between the vivid red foliage and the muted pink-brown bamboo trunks.
Signed Kōkei, with a red square artist seal.
The work is presented in a vintage frame with a dark blue mat and gold-toned inner border.
