Imao Keinen – 24 Japanese Woodblock Prints – Keinen Shūgajō – Later Edition

Set of 24 Japanese woodblock prints after designs by Imao Keinen (1845–1924), one of the leading artists of the Shijo school, together with a separate sheet reproducing the artist’s signature and seal.

The prints belong to Keinen Shūgajō, Keinen’s album of painting studies first published in the Meiji period. The series presents concise studies of birds, flowers, plants, insects, small animals, and other natural subjects associated with the shasei tradition and the Shijo school.

This set represents a later Japanese woodblock edition of the series. The paper and overall character of the impressions place the present set within the 20th-century publishing history of Keinen Shūgajō.

The separate sheet reproduces the signature “Keinen sha.” The large square seal beneath it matches the seal reproduced in historical editions of Keinen Shūgajō. Several of the individual prints also carry reproduced Keinen seals from the original compositions.

Technique: hand-printed woodblock prints on Japanese paper.

Size of each sheet: approximately 27 × 39 cm.

Condition

Good vintage condition with natural traces of age and storage. Some sheets show light handling marks, minor corner wear, soft creases, and slight waviness of the paper.
