Original Japanese painting on shikishi, dating to the Shōwa period, probably the second half of the 20th century.
Daruma is incorporated into a large calligraphic character whose long vertical stroke forms the main axis of the composition. The painting combines expressive ink calligraphy with a finely drawn depiction of Daruma, using black ink and restrained ochre-gold color accents.
A handwritten inscription appears in the upper part of the work. The painting is signed at the left and bears two red artist seals.
