Koyatsu Masami - Two Rabbits - Vintage Japanese Painting on Shikishi

A vintage late 20th-century Japanese painting on shikishi by Koyatsu Masami, depicting two rabbits.

The work is signed and bears the artist’s name seal. It has been preserved with a paper wrapper marked “Rabbit” and a biographical insert. The insert records Koyatsu Masami’s exhibition history up to his election as a dōjin member of the Nihon Bijutsuin in 1998.

Koyatsu Masami (1937–2011) was a Japanese nihonga painter closely associated throughout most of his career with the Nihon Bijutsuin and its Inten exhibitions. His work was first accepted for the Inten exhibition in 1953. From 1955, he studied under Yasuda Yukihiko, one of the leading masters of 20th-century Japanese painting.

In 1998, Koyatsu was elected a dōjin member of the Nihon Bijutsuin. He later received the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award and the Prime Minister’s Award. His works are held in Japanese museum collections, including the Hiratsuka Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki.

Good vintage condition. Minor traces of age and storage. The paper wrapper and biographical insert show normal signs of handling.
