Antique Japanese pictorial ofuda, a printed religious talisman distributed by Shinto shrines. Such sheets were placed in homes, shops, and household altars for protection, prosperity, and good fortune.
The upper inscription names Kotoshironushi no Mikoto, worshipped in the Shinto tradition as Ebisu. The deity is shown holding a fishing rod and a large tai sea bream. This traditional iconography is associated with fishing, commerce, maritime safety, prosperity, and good fortune.
Dating: late Edo period, 19th century.
Technique: woodblock print on paper.
