Japanese shikishi from the mid Shōwa period, depicting a rabbit on a ladder with flowering plum branches.

The work is executed in sumi ink and colored ink on traditional shikishi board. The composition belongs to decorative Japanese painting of the 20th century: the anthropomorphic rabbit, tall ladder, and plum blossoms create a light animal subject with movement, humor, and seasonal poetic character.
