Original Japanese shikishi from the Showa period with an image of Daruma, executed in sumi-e ink in a free expressive manner.
The composition is built around a broad circular brushstroke close to the gesture of enso. The figure of Daruma emerges from a single decisive movement of the brush and connects the image of the Zen patriarch with the concise language of Japanese ink painting.
