Original Japanese calligraphy executed in sumi ink on handmade washi paper.
The work is by Nagata Kōi (永田耕衣, 1900–1997), an important modern Japanese haiku poet who also worked extensively in calligraphy.
The calligraphy was exhibited during Nagata Kōi Shosakuten (書作展), as confirmed by the original exhibition label preserved on the reverse of the frame.
The label records the exhibition date as May 1963 (Shōwa 38) and identifies the work as Exhibit No. G17.
The inscription is written in cursive script and reflects a Zen-oriented calligraphic approach typical of Nagata Kōi’s mature period.
The work was previously mounted in a frame; the exhibition label remains intact on the back.
