Vintage Shōwa Japanese oshie shikishi – kokoro motif

Oshie shikishi from the Shōwa period, created with hand-assembled relief elements forming a gentle folded silhouette that subtly recalls the calm, expanding movement associated with traditional Japanese fan forms. The composition carries a quiet, balanced rhythm characteristic of interior art in mid-20th-century Japan.

A small heart-shaped detail at the base introduces the idea of kokoro — a note of sincerity, warmth, and thoughtful intention. Such accents were often used to convey a soft celebrative mood and a sense of inner harmony.
