Description
A vintage Japanese shikishi from the mid-Shōwa period, painted in oil with an interior composition. At the center is a table with a textured textile surface, accompanied by a book and a vase, while the windows behind create a soft vertical rhythm and a sense of quiet depth. The color structure is built on gentle blue and light-blue tones that form a calm, balanced interior scene.
The painting follows a modernist approach with clear influence from European Fauvism: free brushwork, simplified forms, and decorative planes reminiscent of the Matisse circle. An artist’s seal is present on the front, executed in a decorative manner as a personal compositional mark.
The base is an original Japanese shikishi from the mid-Shōwa era, with its characteristic golden edging and natural signs of age. The surface remains in its original state, without restoration.
Style note
Modernist interior with fauvist color accents and a decorative rhythm of planes, in the manner of mid-20th-century European studio painting.
