Vintage Shōwa Japanese ink and color shikishi – Bowl of fish

Vintage Japanese shikishi from the Shōwa era (1959), executed in ink and color on a traditional board. The composition shows a bowl filled with fish — a characteristic post-war motif associated with everyday life, seasonality, and the idea of simple abundance. The painting is built on expressive brushwork with layered ink textures and soft color washes, reflecting studio practices of mid-century Shōwa.

The reverse side carries an author’s date (1959.2.25). The signature on the front is written with a brush in a vertical format consistent with the period.
