Double-sided Japanese shikishi board with an expressive ink study of a horse.
The front shows a horse with slightly turned head, painted in a minimal suibokuga manner — broad ink strokes forming the torso, dry-brush texture on the mane and tail, and calligraphic lines shaping the legs.
The reverse side contains a lighter, simplified variation of the same pose, likely an exploratory sketch made during the compositional process.
Material: ink on traditional shikishi board with a thin metallic edge.
Period: early–mid Shōwa (c. 1930s–1950s).
Size: approx. 24×27 cm.
Condition
Good vintage condition with natural age toning, light foxing and minor edge wear, consistent with age; no restoration and preserved surface.
Shipping
Safe and tracked shipping from Latvia (Riga Gallery of Japanese Art CloudyYokomido).
Style note
Expressive suibokuga with economical, calligraphic strokes.
