Ink study of a horse executed on a traditional shikishi board. The front side shows a dynamic running pose rendered with quick, economical brushstrokes typical of suibokuga. The reverse holds a second monochrome study of the same subject, created as an alternative movement sketch. Both drawings represent an authentic working sheet from a Shōwa-period studio, where artists practiced rhythm, balance, and contour without focusing on detail.
The manner and materials correspond to mid-Shōwa training practice: free ink line, minimal modelling, attention to overall silhouette and motion. No signature or seal is present, which is typical for study pieces.
Condition: vintage, with natural signs of age, small marks along the edges and minor age spotting. Surface preserved without restorations.
Size: approx. 24 × 27 cm.
Safe and tracked shipping from Latvia (Riga Gallery of Japanese Art CloudyYokomido).
Style note
Free-hand suibokuga study from a mid-Shōwa workshop.
