“Baby in a basket among bamboo.”
Ink painting with a light wash on paper. A quiet composition: a newborn wrapped in cloth lies in a round basket next to bamboo stalks. The line is soft and free, in the traditional sumi-e manner.

The scene refers to the birth motif of Princess Kaguya from the classic Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Taketori Monogatari), where a child appears among bamboo and is found cradled in a vessel. Presented here in a gentle, domestic interpretation.

The mounting of the scroll dates to the second half of the Shōwa period.
The painting itself is undated, and the artist has not been identified. The work carries an ink signature and seal.

Condition: natural traces of time and characteristic fiber creases from storage. No restoration — kept in its natural state with respect for age. Surface remains intact.

Dimensions: approx. 44 × 196 cm.

Style note

Traditional ink painting with a soft, narrative presence.
