Original Japanese painting on card (shikishi format without gilt rim), created in the Taishō–early Shōwa period (c. 1915–1935).
A heartwarming rural scene shows an old fisherman with his child, painted in expressive ink and soft colors. The work is signed with the art-name Taishi Kyūan (太史休庵) and bears the artist’s oval red seal in seal script (tenshō). The gō literally means “Hermitage of the Great Historian,” a poetic pseudonym recalling the literati tradition of the Edo–Meiji era, although the painting itself clearly belongs to the modern Taishō–Shōwa period.

Style & School: brushwork close to Shijō and early nihonga, with a bunjin (literati) sensibility.

Materials: ink and colors on washi mounted to old card (no gilt border).

Condition: antique piece with scattered foxing and light wear; stable and ready for framing.
