This is an authentic sōsaku-hanga (creative print), hand-signed in hiragana and stamped by the artist Wakamizu Hisasato (若水久郷), dated January 1967. The work, titled “顔・表情・顔” (“Face – Expression – Face”), features an expressive, almost sacred figure surrounded by faces in hand-carved, bold black sumi ink strokes — a striking example of post-war Japanese expressionist printmaking.
Executed in the self-drawn, self-carved, self-printed tradition of the sōsaku-hanga movement, influenced by the likes of Munakata Shikō. Printed on handmade washi paper; the red cinnabar hanko seal with the artist’s name enhances its authenticity.
Size: approximately 27 × 38 cm (10.6 × 15 in).
A rare modernist print that captures both emotion and spiritual resonance.
