A vintage Japanese shikishi from the mid-Shōwa period. The front shows an ink-and-light-wash depiction of a bird in a sharp descending motion. The diagonal composition emphasizes movement: the wing is rendered with soft, translucent strokes, while the right edge includes tall grass blades that provide balance and rhythm.
The painting reflects Shōwa-period brushwork that still carries echoes of late Edo–Meiji aesthetics: economical strokes, gentle color accents, and attention to a captured natural gesture. The signature and seal on the right are executed in a concise mid-20th-century manner.
