This rare piece is an authentic Japanese calligraphy and ink drawing from Showa 11 (1936), hand-painted by the monk Shushiku (拾育).
The artwork playfully depicts an Oni (demon) with a traditional Setsubun motif: “When demons help, Buddha arranges.” The large inscription finishes with the Buddhist chant Namu Amida Butsu, calling for peace and protection.
This unique blend of humorous brushwork and spiritual text is typical of mid-Showa Zen calligraphy. The paper is genuine handmade washi, showing beautiful patina and character.
Perfect for collectors of Japanese art, Buddhist scrolls, or lovers of unique calligraphy.
