Vintage Japanese shikishi from the Shōwa period, painted on a traditional board with a gold rim. The image shows an ema plaque with a mountain view, blooming plum branches, and a running boar — the zodiac animal associated with people born in the Year of the Boar. In Japanese tradition this sign is linked to determination, straightforwardness, and steady progress, and such motifs were often given as a symbolic wish for strength and good direction. The work is hand-painted in watercolor and sumi ink.
Style note
Minimal sumi and watercolor technique in a typical Shōwa expressive manner.
Condition
Good vintage condition. Vintage works may show natural signs of age (light toning, small fiber creases, gentle edge wear), so please review the photos carefully.
