This rare Edo period woodblock print depicts a beautiful seated lady in an intimate moment of reading and rest.
Handprinted during the An’ei era (1775), it bears the signature 「應舉」 (Ōkyo) and the inscription 「安永乙未季春寫」 (painted in spring of the乙未 year, An’ei era).
Belonging to the Maruyama-Shijō school, this delicate bijinga embodies the refined realism and elegance for which Maruyama Ōkyo is celebrated.
Size: approx. 27 × 40 cm (print mounted on backing paper).
Condition: Authentic Edo-period washi with signs of age, some edge wear and mild foxing.
