This exquisite antique Japanese woodblock print (mokuhanga) depicts a graceful scene of a pheasant with chicks among blooming white peonies and rocky terrain — a timeless motif from the Kachō-ga (花鳥画, “Flowers and Birds”) tradition.
Originally designed by Kano Tsunenobu (狩野常信, 1636–1713), a celebrated master of the Kano School, this impression was likely reprinted during the Meiji–Taisho period (circa 1900–1920) by a Tokyo publisher (芳川堂 / Hōsendo).
It belongs to the classic series Jōshin Kachō Gafu (常信花鳥畫譜), “Flowers and Birds Album by Jōshin”, as noted in the elegant red cartouche on the right.
