The accompanying inscription describes the scene in a poetic form:
“Appearance of the Three Friends of Winter. Early spring of the cyclical year Hinoe-Uma.”
This date is part of the literary formula of the theme and does not indicate the actual year of production. Artist’s signature and seals are present.

Period
Based on the painting style, calligraphy and the type of mounting, the work belongs to the early Shōwa period, approximately 1930–1950.
