This is an authentic Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) painted on fine washi paper, featuring a charismatic Zen portrait of Daruma, the legendary founder of Zen Buddhism.
The inscription reads: "Three years of peach blossoms, eight years of the staff, nine years facing the wall — his voice like a bell."
Dated to 1948 (Shōwa Tsuchinoe-ne), it is signed Asayama Dōjin with his red seals.
The bold brushwork and free Zen spirit link this piece to the tradition of Nantenbō and Kodo Sawaki. A wonderful collectible for any lover of Japanese Zen art.
The original painting has been carefully restored and mounted on a new scroll backing.
Ships securely from Latvia (Riga Gallery of Japanese Art "CloudyYokomido").
A rare opportunity to own an original piece of Japanese spiritual painting.
