This antique Japanese hanging scroll features a subtle haiga-style ink painting with mountain and village elements executed in free brushstrokes. The composition embodies the aesthetics of zenga and haiga, where minimal lines evoke poetic depth.

On the right margin is a vertical signature written in flowing script, accompanied by a rare vermillion kakihan (personal mark) resembling the kana “の”, a stylistic element typical of late Edo to early Meiji artists (ca. 1850–1880). This combination of black signature and red kakihan is a hallmark of the transitional period, when literati, Zen monks, and haiga painters emphasized both spontaneity and individuality.

The mounting is in old silk, with natural patina and age traces consistent with 19th-century scrolls. The painting surface shows warm tonality and fine paper texture, confirming its authenticity and period character.
