Vintage double-sided shikishi from the mid Shōwa era, painted in watercolor on both sides.
The front side shows a botanical study of blooming narcissus, executed in a light watercolor technique with a confident outline, an author’s signature, and a red studio seal typical of mid-Shōwa painting practice. The work is fully hand-painted, with careful attention to the natural form of the flowers.
The reverse side presents a warm summer scene: an adult woman in a light yukata showing a child the traditional senkō-hanabi sparkler. The soft illustrative manner and calm composition reflect the nostalgic aesthetics of mid-Shōwa family imagery.
Both sides are hand-painted on the original shikishi board, likely created within a private studio environment of the Shōwa period.
Style note
Watercolor with light outlining in a mid-Shōwa studio style.
