This exquisite antique Japanese kakejiku (hanging scroll) is crafted on silk and depicts an intimate bathing scene of a mother with her child — a classic bijinga motif in the Katsukawa Shunchō (勝川春潮) ukiyo-e school.
The composition and theme closely relate to Shunchō’s famous series “Scenes from the Life of Women in the Twelve Months” (十二ヶ月婦女之図), created in the late 18th century, where each print illustrates the seasonal everyday life of women in Edo-period Japan.

Graceful lines, delicate facial expressions, intricate kimono patterns, and the warm indoor setting perfectly reflect the refined bijinga style of the late Edo period.
This piece is likely a late 19th to early 20th-century woodblock print reproduction, partially hand-colored and beautifully mounted as a silk scroll for interior display.
