Original Japanese shikishi from the Meiji–Taishō era, with a painting on silk mounted on a traditional board. The work presents a mountain landscape with an abstracted Fuji motif, executed in a decorative manner connected to the late tradition of Japanese woodblock aesthetics and the early development of nihonga.
The composition uses flat color fields, soft mineral tones and simplified forms, reflecting the transition from the ukiyo-e visual vocabulary to early modern Japanese painting. Small rhythmic pines, layered hills and the silhouette of Fuji show clear influence from late woodblock landscape design, adapted here into a painted format typical for shikishi presentation pieces of this era.
Style Note
Flat composition influenced by late ukiyo-e and early Meiji–Taishō landscape design.
