An antique Japanese shikishi from a period close to the early Taishō era. The work follows the traditional shikishi board format used for travel sketches and observations of coastal scenery in the early 20th century.
The composition shows a steamship along a calm waterline with a small boat in the foreground. The vertical inscription indicates the location of the scene, and the red seal completes the composition. The brushwork reflects the transitional Meiji–Taishō aesthetic: soft ink washes, fine linear detailing, and a restrained palette that conveys the quiet atmosphere of early-modern travel painting.
The surface shows natural signs of age consistent with an antique work and retains its authentic period character.
Style Note
Early-modern Japanese ink style with soft tonal washes characteristic of the Meiji–Taishō transition.
