Original Japanese Hanging Scroll (Kakejiku)
Beautiful traditional ink wash landscape (sumi-e) depicting misty mountains, a small house, and a lone figure crossing a bridge. The composition may evoke the iconic views of Mount Tsukuba (筑波山), a beloved theme in Japanese landscape painting symbolizing the harmony of nature and people.
This piece is done in the style of nanzonga (Southern School landscape painting), which draws on Chinese shanshui traditions and was popular among regional Japanese artists in the early-to-mid Showa period (circa 1950s–1970s).
Artist signature: 蓮厳 (Rengen) with studio seal 大統流山 (Daitō Ryūzan).
Period: likely mid Showa era, circa 1950–1970.
Materials: ink and light watercolor on paper with original mounting.
Dimensions: approx. 47 x 210 cm (18.5 x 83 inches).
Condition: very good vintage condition; minor signs of age on the back but front is clean and bright.
A beautiful piece to add classic Japanese atmosphere to any tokonoma, tearoom, or modern interior.
