Delicate hand-painted Japanese shikishi on silk (approx. 24×27 cm) depicting two striped watermelons with a finely rendered cricket perched on top — a charming scene from the traditional grass-and-insects (sōchū-ga) genre.
Signed with the artist’s calligraphic name and a red square seal, the work was created in the mid-Showa period, when painters carried forward the elegance of Nihonga traditions established by the Maruyama–Shijō school.
