Rare antique ink-on-silk bamboo painting, c. late Edo–early Meiji (1850–1900), 24 × 27 cm. Painted with fine sumi‑ink on silk on board, in the literati (bun jin‑ga) tradition, featuring a classic bamboo grove motif and signature reading “Fu‑en” (風簷) and “Juwō Gen’nin” (寿翁玄人). The seals echo the artist name.
The poetic inscription mentions “Fu‑en” – literally “wind under the eaves” – a delicate metaphor often used in Chinese‑inspired poetry to suggest the gentle sound of bamboo leaves swaying in the breeze. It frames the bamboo scene not just as an image, but as an evocation of quiet elegance and the passing wind.
Material: fine silk over board, aged with soft patina and faint gold flecks.
