Estimated period: Taisho–early Showa (circa 1910–1940s).

The painting features a beautiful peony (botan) blooming under falling snow, with the subtle outline of a wagasa (Japanese umbrella) in the background — a poetic symbol of prosperity, resilience, and winter beauty.

The piece bears the artist’s brush signature 翠玲 (Suirei) and a red seal mark confirming it as an original work by a nihonga artist. The reverse side shows the authentic vintage washi board with no modern factory markings.

Hand-painted with mineral pigments and sumi ink.
