Original Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku) painted on traditional washi paper, complete with its original wooden storage box. This expressive artwork shows blooming plum branches in elegant Sumi-e ink wash style. The vertical inscription includes a classical poem: “The bright moon shines among pines, clear streams flow over stones.”
Signed and sealed by the artist Kodo with a cyclical date. Based on materials, mounting, and brushwork, the piece was likely created in the mid to late 20th century, in the tradition of the Bunjinga or Nanga literati style.
Literati painting (Bunjinga) is a Japanese school inspired by Chinese wenrenhua, where painting, poetry, and calligraphy blend into one meditative art form. The plum blossom (ume) symbolizes resilience and renewal — a cherished theme in Zen-inspired art.
