Evoking the quiet poetry of rustic life, this minimalist monochrome ink painting (sumi-e) by the Japanese artist Ikku (一空) depicts a traditional tripod kettle suspended over a fire. Rendered in swift, expressive brushwork, the piece captures a meditative atmosphere — a moment of stillness in the everyday.

Ikku is the gō (art name) of an unknown but confident painter working in the early-to-mid 20th century, possibly in a rural Kansai context. The artist’s works often combine poetic references with simplified forms rooted in Zen-inspired aesthetics. This particular piece is part of a coherent series (available separately) on Japanese flora and utensils, executed on washi mounted to board.

The two red seals bear the characters 一空 (Ikku, "Empty One"), reinforcing the painter’s Buddhist sensibility. The style reflects suibokuga (ink painting) traditions of the Nanga and Bunjinga schools, popular among literati and monks.
