This charming Japanese shikishi painting blends the simplicity of sumi-e with a poetic haiku in the haiga tradition. A delicately painted black tea bowl sits beside a red camellia flower — a subtle symbol of winter. Above is a seasonal haiku about forgetting the ritual purification before a shrine visit in December:
Shiwasu tsuki /
harai sobireshi ya /
hatsumiyamae
"December —
forgot the purification...
before shrine visit."
The work is signed “Shigeko” (しげこ), and stamped with a red square seal containing the character 玉 (“jewel”). Likely a contemporary female haiga artist.
