Vintage Shōwa Japanese painting shikishi – Iris flower

Vintage Japanese shikishi showing an iris, created in the early–mid Shōwa period. The work is painted in watercolor and soft gouache on a traditional shikishi board with a gold edge. The flower is rendered in a calm decorative manner typical of studio practices of the Shōwa era, with gentle washes on the petals and clear green leaves.

Meaning note: In Japanese aesthetics the iris is associated with clarity, renewal, and composed inner strength. It often appears in seasonal works that reflect balance and quiet focus.

A red artist seal is present in the lower right corner. No signature. The dating is based on style, materials, and the type of shikishi board, consistent with early–mid Shōwa.
