Antique Japanese hanging scroll (kakejiku), depicting the sacred mountain Ōmine (大峯山) and the Shugendō pantheon.
The central figure is Zao Gongen, surrounded by Fudō Myō-ō, Jizō Bosatsu, Jinja Daishōten, Kongō Dōji, and En no Gyōja, founder of Shugendō.

This mandara was created in 1839 (Tenpō 10, Edo period) as a pilgrimage scroll, purchased by a devotee after visiting the sacred Ōmine mountains. Such scrolls served as powerful talismans at home, combining Buddhist and Shinto traditions.

Technique: ink and colors on handmade washi paper, mounted as a hanging scroll with silk borders

Condition: age wear, folds, some pigment loss, but with original mounting and clear inscriptions.
