This original shikishi features a graceful morning glory (asagao) painted in soft washes of blue and green, paired with a handwritten haiku. On the reverse side, the artist added a playful image of a summer paper lantern, making this a rare double-sided shikishi.

The work is signed with the red seal of Ikkū (一空) – meaning “One Sky.” This poetic art name reflects the painter’s meditative and open approach to nature. Every piece by Ikkū carries the same serene simplicity, forming a cohesive collection of hand-painted shikishi created in post-war Japan.
