A serene Japanese shikishi (approx. 24×27 cm) depicting a graceful white egret standing beside bamboo, rendered in soft sumi ink and subtle white highlights.

This piece was created in the postwar Shōwa era (1960s–70s), reflecting the continuation of the kachō‑ga (bird-and-flower) tradition into modern times. The motif of the egret – a timeless symbol of purity and stillness – was especially popular in Japanese studio paintings of the period.

The work is on a classic shikishi board with a gold trim and mica-speckled reverse, traditional supports widely used for painting and calligraphy in Japan.

Unsigned, as was common for studio pieces of the time, it remains an elegant, minimalist artwork ideal for display.
