Vintage Shōwa Japanese ink and watercolor shikishi – reishi mushrooms

Vintage Japanese shikishi from the Shōwa era. The composition is executed in ink and soft watercolor in a calm, meditative manner associated with tea-practice painting. It depicts two reishi mushrooms, a traditional symbol of longevity and inner steadiness. The artist’s signature and red seal appear on the right side. The surface is preserved, with natural signs of age typical for vintage works.

Reishi is regarded as an emblem of long life, vitality, and quiet resilience. Such minimal compositions were often created within tea-related artistic circles as expressions of balance and gentle contemplation.
